Woman Who Scaled Statue of Liberty Protesting Immigrant Family Separation Charged (Video)
An immigrant from the Democratic Republic of Congo protested Donald Trump’s family separation policy by scaling the Statue of Liberty on the 4th of July.
TMZ reports that 44-year-old Therese Okoumou scaled as far as the base of the monument on America’s historical day without the aide of a harness. The NYPD emergency service unit removed her from the base at roughly 2 PM EST.
Okomou appeared in court on Thursday to answer to federal misdemeanors charges of trespassing, interference with government agency functions, and disorderly conduct.
