For boxing fans clamoring for a heavyweight showdown featuring unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Cuba’s Luis Ortiz, prepare to be disappointed.

Speaking to the press on Thursday in Los Angeles, Hearn says Ortiz was offered a purse upward of $5 million dollars to which he declined and countered with a different offer. Unconfirmed reports state Ortiz was asking for something more in the neighborhood of $10M. A career high payday by leaps and bounds.

“Ortiz was offered a lot more than what you just said.

[reporter off camera said $5M dollars]

Next week, when everything is said and done, I will expose Team Ortiz in triumphant fashion.

I’m fed up with people lying about Anthony Joshua.

Hearn goes on to discuss the short list of opponents being considered to fight Joshua on June 1st which include Michael Hunter and Andy Ruiz in addition to Ortiz. A fight with Hunter would be the easiest to make due to he and Joshua residing under the same Matchroom Boxing umbrella.

Meanwhile, as the circus continues to spin, Joshua is keeping a low profile and opting not to add his voice to the circus surrounding his replacement opponent selection.
