[Video] Bellator Champ Shlemenko Calls Out Ortiz

Bellator MMA’s first pay-per-view may get an unexpected addition.
The event, scheduled for May 17th in Memphis, will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez vs. Mike Chandler for the Bellator Lightweight title. The co-feature bout will pitt “King” Mo Lawal against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in a light-heavyweight tournament final. Rounding out the star studded card will be the return of Tito Ortiz.
Late last week reigning Bellator middleweight champ Alexander Shlemenko called out Ortiz via video and expressed his desire to move up in weight to battle the legend on the upcoming pay-per-view. What makes this weird, other than the random video and weight jump by Shlemenko, is the fact Ortiz was recently (last Thursday) medically cleared to fight and has been for the most part has been very quiet in recent months on social media. So no one is sure if this is a genuine challenge from Shlemenko or something cooked up from the powers at hand in the Bellator offices.
As it stands now the fight isn’t a done deal per Bellator MMA Preisdent Bjorn Rebney. “It hasn’t yet been approved by the commission, so I can’t look at you and say, ‘It’s done, and it’s on the card.’ But I want to make it. As a fan, I want to see it. It’s compelling.” He does sound hopeful on making it in hopes of drawing more eyes to this event.
