After Russian promoter Andrew Ryabinsky submitted the winning purse bid (7.15 million) guaranteeing him the rights to promote and control the upcoming match-up between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin, there’s been wide speculation on where the event could land. Despite Team Povetkin pulling out the win, the possibility of a stateside title defense didn’t appear to be far-fetched, until now. On Tuesday, Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com reported that the May 21st championship fight is headed to Russia’s MegaSport Arena in Moscow. On December 17, 2015, the Cuellar Family’s life changed forever. Sharnae Cuellar had just picked up her husband, Matt from his job at Harris Ranch, where he was a meat packer. On Tuesday Golden Boy Promotions announced that WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alavarez will face off against former super lightweight champion Amir Khan on May 7th. As of yet a venue has not been announced but it is being widely speculated that the fight will land at the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. PHILADELPHIA, PA — On Thursday, Danny Garcia announced he will vacate the WBC light welterweight title, a title he’s held since March 2012, and move up to the welterweight division. The announcement isn’t particularly surprising since Garcia hasn’t fought at 140 pounds since March 2014 and has opted to stage recent bouts against undersized opponents at negotiated catch-weights. In his last fight at 140 pounds, against Mauricio Herrera, Garcia struggled to make weight and win against Herrera.
