During the Pacquiao Bradley Fight Week in Las Vegas, Top Rank Chief Bob Arum confirmed to the Morning Punch-In Show w/ RB & Jae podcast that Mikey Garcia has been released from Top Rank. “Other promoters made runs at him. And that screwed him up. and yeah he we didn’t offer him the Crawford fight because he wanted more money than Crawford and Crawford is the champion. That means something. So we’ve given Mikey his release now and he’s free to do what he wants.” Says the release was given “today.” Where Garcia lands remains to be seen.

In tough, hard fought fashion, super middleweight contender Jesse Hart of Top Rank went the distance to outlast Dashon Johnson by unanimous decision at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Judges’ final scores were 98-91, 97-92 and 95-94. A back and forth brawl, that never wanted for action, featured Hart dominating the majority of the rounds with Johnson showing no signs of quitting or backing off last year’s ‘Prospect Of The Year’ noiminee. Jessie Vargas Dominates Ali to Become WBO Champion

The fight, a matchup that appeared to be fifty-fifty on paper when announced, evolved into a healthy scrap that largely favored Vargas. Competitive during the early rounds, the combatants exchanged big blows with Vargas maintaining the upper hand. Antonio Margarito Gets Dropped, Still Wins By UD (Video)

After a nearly four year absence from the ring, the ‘Tijuana Tornado’ Antonio Margarito made his return to the ring at the Arena Mexico in Mexico City. Despite a 6th round knockdown, Margarito survived to win by unanimous decision against Jorge Paez Jr. Judges final scores 95-94, 97-93 and 96-93. With no real hand speed and barely enough in the tank to lift him past his journeyman level opponent, Margarito didn’t appear to have anything in the arsenal to put anyone in the welterweight division on notice.
