Claressa Shields Named BWAA’s 2018 Female Fighter of the Year

In a pivotal year for women’s boxing that saw the sport reach more people than ever before, two-time United States Olympic gold medal winner Claressa Shields continued to soar, as she successfully defended her two world middleweight titles, then added three super middleweight belts before the end of a campaign that earned her the 2018 Christy Marin Award, which is given to the Boxing Writers Association of America’s Female Fighter of the Year. “I am thrilled and honored to receive the Fighter of the Year award from the Boxing Writers Association of America. Anthony Joshua Says No To Deontay Wilder Fight; Povetkin Up Next (Video)

A heavyweight unification bout between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in 2018 looks to now be off the table with Joshua moving on to his WBA mandatory Alexander Povetkin. Speaking to Sky Sports, WBA president Gilbert Mendoza is ordering that Joshua fight come to terms with Povetkin, or face being stripped, after giving him a month to make a decision on fighting Wilder. “The WBA have allowed over a month extension to negotiations with Povetkin and also ongoing discussions with Deontay Wilder. ”It appears the Wilder team have not returned the contract for the fight and therefore we are requesting a date for the Joshua versus Povetkin fight with immediate effect.” Joshua now has 24…

4 Post-Basketball, Non-Sports Jobs Kobe Bryant Should Consider

Regardless how you feel about Kobe Bryant, we can all agree that he has had an illustrious, glorious, awesome to witness career. Even those who seem to find flaws in his personality and personal life have no choice but to extend an insurmountable amount of respect to that man’s a legend. Now, don’t worry. This isn’t going to turn into one of those conversations about whether he’s better than LeBron James or Michael Jordan, mostly because my attitude has always been he’s the first Kobe Bryant, not the resurrection or second coming of any other player. All that aside, let us collectively salute Kobe Bryant, undisputedly the hardest working man the NBA has ever had…

Don’t Ask Rousey About Fighting, She’s A Fighter

On Tuesday a picture surfaced of Ronda Rousey in her usual UFC branded workout shorts and a sports bra looking in less than prime shape. Keep in mind it’s not unusual for fighters to ease up on their diet between fights. In fact pre-loss Rousey has said a number of times in interviews that she walks around at a comfortable weight and prefers to be photographed at a “normal” weight to promote the idea of general health in women. But make no mistake, Rousey is a bit heavier than we’ve seen her in a while. Before the activist emerge and accuse BC of weight shaming, that is not the intent. It’s more of an observation…

[Video] Serena Williams Salutes The Little Mermaid

The seaweed’s always greener in somebody else’s lake…Unless you’re Serena Williams. I’m sure she’s fine with her seaweed. I’m certain she’s pleased with ALL the green in her life. At her recent Delta sponsored karaoke event, the tennis grand mistress belted out the signature song ‘Under the Sea’ from the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” and she didn’t do too bad a job. Good to see her out there having some fun. No word of Drake on the hook.
