End of an Era: GGG & Abel Sanchez Part Ways Ahead of Golovkin’s Next Fight

Despite the fact that he has yet to set foot in the ring this year, 2019 has already been an eventful one for Gennady GGG Golovkin. The year opened with rumors abounding that the former unified middleweight champion parted with longtime promoter Tom Loeffler. Instead, the relationship remained intact and with Golovkin working in the background as he prepares to come into his own as the head of GGG Promotions. Then there was the matter of his fighting home base. With HBO removing boxing from it’s regularly scheduled programming, Golovkin fielded offers from ESPN, DAZN and PBC before ultimately settling on a lucrative, $100 million dollar deal to fight three times on the streaming platform….

GGG Gennady Golovkin Close to Finalizing Deal With DAZN

Gennady Golovkin is expected to reveal a new fight broadcast deal in the coming days. Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine reports that Golovkin is set to sign with online streaming platform DAZN. Eddie Hearn and John Skipper meeting with Gennady Golovkin this morning in Los Angeles. Hearn feels he’ll be able to finalize terms with GGG to bring him exclusively to DAZN. Belief is it’s a two-fight offer worth eight figures per bout. The news comes after much speculation to whether Golovin would join DAZN, the Premier Boxing Champions platform (currently broadcasting on Fox & Showtime) or ESPN+ (home to Top Rank Boxing). Golovkin has yet to issue his own public comment on the decision.

Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin, the rematch, is booked for September 15 and Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is not only relieved a deal was made but was willing to put up his own money in his fighter’s purse just to make certain he got the percentage he wanted. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin continued his winning ways by defeating IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook by stoppage in the fifth round at the 02 Arena in London.
