WBC Announces “Tournament” For 147 and 154 lb Divisions

In the wake of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s retirement from boxing, the World Boxing Council (WBC) is left without champions in the welterweight and super welterweight divisions. After naming him the Emeritus Champion at their annual convention in China, the sanctioning body announced a tournament of sorts to fill the vacancies left behind by Mayweather. “Floyd Mayweather received the highest honor ever presented to a boxer with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the WBC Annual Convention in Kunming, China,” “Mayweather, the WBC Emeritus Champion, retired from boxing as reigning WBC welterweight and super welterweight champion and will always be regarded as one of the greatest champions in WBC history. “The WBC wishes the best of luck to…

Mayweather Says Racism Still A Factor In Boxing

This past Wednesday, in an interview with Fighthype.com, retired pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather was asked about the state of boxing today. In his response Mayweather states that racism is the single determining factor as to why black fighters are not as beloved as their non-black counterparts despite their accomplishments. “I can’t believe they [Ring Magazine] got Andre Ward ranked No. 4 in the pound-for-pound list. Even though the guy that’s ranked No.1 pound-for-pound right now [Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez], you know, you can’t argue about that, but without Andre Ward losing a fight, he has to be No. 2. … I mean, he wins his fights not in good fashion, but in great fashion, and they have…

Why I Don’t Buy Mayweather’s “Retirement”

After going undefeated after 19 years as a professional, winning titles in five different weight divisions, defeating 22 champions, and the becoming the litmus stick by which financial rewards are evaluated, the end arrived and Floyd Mayweather was ready to embrace the retired life. With his last act in the ring complete, defeating Andre Berto, Mayweather was ready to walk into the sunset. Sorry, not buying it. Number 50 is fight there. I wish I had some interesting, convoluted theory to justify my reasoning. The aliens (not Bernard Hopkins) didn’t come from another planet, the illuminati didn’t reveal it during a secret meeting and I didn’t intercept a confidential email or court transcript. I just believe what I see….

Video: All Access: Mayweather vs Berto (Epilogue)

LAS VEGAS – The final stanza of the Mayweather v Berto series ends with fight night and Mayweather easily cruising to unanimous decision victory over Andre Berto. With that being said, a fight that was difficult to watch live is painful to watch in round by round slow motion. Especially if you’re Andre Berto. The Haitian-born former champion had the heart, and the muscle, but ZERO response for the Mayweather onslaught showing no real dominance in any round. The round he made few advances is somewhere on the editing room floor. One thing the installment didn’t lack was emotion from both sides but for different reasons. Watch and Enjoy.

5 Questions I’d Ask Floyd Mayweather

LAS VEGAS — It’s Monday and as of right now Floyd Mayweather is retired*. After an expected dominate win over Andre Berto on Saturday night, aside from the post-fight filibuster-esque press conference, the end was pretty anti-climatic. No streamers from the ceiling, no fireworks, just the ho-hum exchanges with Jim Gray  in the aftermath complete with the usual scripted ‘thank you’, ‘phenomenal’, ‘helluva’, and adoration of the pro-Mayweather crowd. I never had the opportunity to interview Mayweather one-on-one. I managed to sneak in a question during the last Los Angeles press conference but it was nothing I really wanted to know rather an effort to break up redundancy of questions already being asked. So now in the second post-Mayweather…
