In front of a crowd of 12,000, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder earned a place in boxing’s history books as he defeated Artur “The Pin” Szpilka of Poland by knockout in the ninth round of action. In his third defense of the title, earned by defeating Bermaine Stiverne last year, Wilder looked to not only perform well in his Brooklyn debut but also to win in spectacular knock out fashion.  In the end those watching Wilder vs. Szpilka were treated to a highly entertaining fight that will surely be remembered. Brooklyn Boxing: Boos, KO’s & Retirements

Last night marked the first time the borough of Brooklyn hosted a title fight in over 80 years courtesy of Golden Boy Promotions. Fight fans came to the Barclays Center in full force and boxing luminaries were on hand to assist with the welcome. Among those in the crowd, Zab Judah, Riddick Bowe and Sadam Ali. But the biggest ovation of the night, went to Brooklyn native Mike Tyson whose face on the big screen brought such thunderous applause Tyson, who was in the middle of texing, looked up to see what happened, and realized he was receiving the kudos.
