Adrien Broner Defeats Theophane In 9; Calls Out Mayweather

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 2, 2016) – Four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner didn’t have much of a problem beating and stopping Ashley “The Treasure” Theophane at 1:10 in the ninth round in the main event of tonight’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike event in front of a sold out crowd of 8,172 at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. At 26-years-old, Broner, who lost his 140-pound world title on the scale when he failed to make the bout’s weight limit, improved his record to 32-2, 24 KOs. Broner Loses Title On Scale, Fight Still On

And the woes for Adrien Broner continue… At Thursday’s weigh-in for his Friday night match-up against Ashley Theophane, Broner failed to make the 140-lb weight limit coming in at 140.4. Given the standard 2 hours to lose the addition .4, Broner declined to return to the scales thus forfeiting the WBA world super lightweight title. Theophane now not only has the opportunity to win the vacant title but will pocket an addition undisclosed amount of Broner’s purse according to ESPN’s Dan Raphael. This is the second time Broner has been stripped of a title in his professional career for failing to make the divisional weight limit. Smith/Theophane Post Wins On Special Edition Of FNF

Former junior middleweight champion Ishe Smith defeated Cecil McCalla by unanimous decision Thursday night at the Palms Resort. Judges final scores 98-92, 97-93 and 97-93. Making his first appearance since separating with long time trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad Smith found himself tested throughout the bout but ultimately won battle. Smith is now trained by Danny Smith (no relation), who was already working his corner along with Muhammad.
