Porter to Face Malignaggi In First Title Defense 4/19
LAS VEGAS, NV –
This week, “The Alien” Bernard Hopkins and Beibut Shumenov officially announced their April 19th light heavyweight unification clash with press conferences in Washington D.C. and New York City. The bout will be the main event of a night of multiple title clashes taking place at the DC Armory and broadcast on Showtime.
Since that announcement, Golden Boy is wasting no time shaping the an undercard that will give fans a full night of boxing. The co-feature event will feature WBO middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin defending the title against Lukas Konecny in a 12 round clash. Topping off a night of title defenses, Shawn “Showtime” Porter will make his first defense of the IBF welterweight belt against Paul “Magic Man” Malignaggi. Porter who defeated Devon Alexander in December to take ownership of the belt made the announcement yesterday on his Facebook account.
Malignaggi (33-5, 7 KOs) is a former junior welterweight and welterweight champion. Malignaggi lost the title against Adrien Broner last June by split decision.
According to ESPN.com, the bout was made possible after the IBF allowed Porter to pass over Kell Brook. Brook who’s fighting Alvaro Robles March 15th has been actively campaigning to fight Amir Khan, who turned him down…who was turned by Floyd Mayweather…who defeated Robert Guerrero…who turned down Amir Khan.
