Bernard Hopkins (the current IBF Champion) and Beibut Shumenov (the current WBA Champion) promise one thing: April 19th will be an historic event.
On Wednesday, both fighters along with their promoter Golden Boy Promotions, held press conference at Lucille’s Restaurant in Manhattan to promote their light heavyweight Championship showdown scheduled for April 19th at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C.
When Shumenov approached the stage, he complimented Hopkins by stating “Hopkins is a boxing genius. He is a legend. He has the highest boxing IQ and skills ever.” But he made it very clear he is up to challenge saying “This is my opportunity to show the world that I am the best light heavyweight.”
Next up to the podium, Bernard Hopkins’ trainer Nazim Richardson echoed the same sentiments of the historic nature of this fight, and his fighter Bernard Hopkins. “Everything that Bernard does now is historic.” adding “I agree that this is a historic fight.”
During his time at the podium, Hopkins spoke of his determination to unify the titles and his very realistic chance of making happen. “The beginning of the unification,” said Hopkins. “After April 19th, there is a realistic opportunity for unification.” The always interesting Hopkins concluded his address by showing his abs and delivering one final message, “When you see me April 19th in D.C on Showtime, be inspired. It’s never too late to change your lifestyle.”
