Manny Pacquiao, MMA Promoter?
As if he wasn’t already busy and had a full schedule, Manny Pacquiao added another title to his name: MMA promoter.Today, Asian based MMA promotional outfit ONE FC announced that Manny Pacquiao purchased an undisclosed number of company shares and is now an owner.
The company has held all of its events in Asia since its start up in the Fall of 2011, but hopes to expand to other countries including the United States in the coming the coming year. To hear ONE FC CEO Victor Cui tell it, adding Manny will be a big addition to making that happen.
“There are a ton of reasons why I’m pretty excited about this. Obviously, Manny Pacquiao is a global sports icon and having him as a part of our organization as a shareholder and promoting One FC and promoting the sport is huge for the sport in the region. It promotes awareness and growth.”
For Pacquiao this is just another in the long list of ventures his has going outside of the boxing ring. With him stating in recent weeks he plans to retire in 2016, he will have more then enough to keep him busy once boxing is over. He still holds a seat in congress in native Philippines, boxing promoter, is part owner of Philippine Basketball Association team where he has both played and coached, he is a singer with multiple album releases and actor in TV and film.
Will being an owner of a MMA promotion become a distraction to him? We will see when he is defending his WBO Welterweight title on November 22 in Macau, China against Chris Algieri.
