Joshua vs Miller is OFF! Miller Breaks Silence; Who’s Stepping In With Joshua?
The heavyweight showdown between unified champion Anthony Joshua and Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller is officially off.
Tuesday night, ESPN first reported that Miller tested positive for the banned substance GW1516 during a random VADA drug test. Since that time, the New York State Athletic Commission made the decision to deny Miller a license making the fight officially off.
Via LA Times:
The New York State Athletic Commission has declined heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller’s application for a license to fight Anthony Joshua on June 1 at Madison Square Garden, the Los Angeles Times learned Wednesday.
Miller took to Instagram to share his feelings on the positive test reading and reiterated he would “never knowingly” take a banned substance.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing said the fight card will go on and they are currently seeking Miller’s replacement for the June 1 bout with Luis Ortiz leading the list.
Hearn told IFL TV (h/t Metro‘s Coral Barry) Joshua already has an opponent in mind:
“(Ortiz) was the first name he gave me last night. I called him and just said, ‘Mate, I’ve got terrible news, Miller’s failed a drug test’. He didn’t even sound that surprised. He said, ‘Okay, who’s next?’ I asked who he wanted and he said absolutely anyone, no problem.”
Anthony Joshua hasn’t spoken publicly since news broke of Miller’s positive test.
