IBF Puts Their Foot Down – No Molina vs. Ortiz
LOS ANGELES, CA –
The proposed match up between current IBF light middleweight champion Carlos Molina and Victor Ortiz is off.
According to reports the IBF declined to sanction the 154 pound title since Ortiz, who’s been out of the ring since his jaw breaking loss to Josesito Lopez, never fought a contender in that weight class in addition to coming off 2 lopsided losses. He has however had time to appear on Basketball Wives, Dancing With The Stars, and film a movie.
With Ortiz out of the picture, there’s a void that needs filling. This fight was scheduled to appear on the power packed PPV card being headlined by the Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana bout. While the other matches are compelling (Thurman vs. Soto-Karass, Angulo vs. Melendez, Shumenov vs. Kovacs) there’s still a need for another high-profile fight.
It’s been speculated that Mosley could fill the void. He’s currently ranked, a title holder, and in shape in light of the cancellation of the Mundine match up. Shane Mosley has been mentioned according to a report by BoxingScene. After all, he is available and he is in shape in light of the cancellation of his bout against Mundine. According to the BS report, he was offered the fight against Molina but declined after receiving a better offer from Mundine’s promoter.
I suspect Sugar Shane will be in the ring on December 14th but we’ll have to wait and see.
