HATR News – No Thurman For the Ghost, Matthysse vs DS?
LOS ANGELES, CA –
Happy Monday fight fans. As we recover from an eventful weekend of fight action, we begin a new week and a new opportunity for fighters to make new deals, behave badly, and shock the world. With a fall season filled with exciting fights on the horizon, we still have to keep ourselves busy with the day to day happenings of the squared circle. Here’s what’s been circulating around the ring this weekend.
Shout to SAN DIEGO!
Speaking to BoxingScene.com, Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, said he hoped to make a fight card in November featuring Robert Guerrero vs. Keith Thurman but Guerrero reportedly turned the offer down.
I guess Money May devastated him more than he let on.
In the same report, another contender interested in seeing Thurman in the ring is Jesus Soto Karass. As you may remember, Soto Karass is floating high after his one sided victory during the Knockout Kings II card against a shoulder injured Andre Berto.
Early predictions if Thurman vs. Soto Karass is made, a lot of blows exchanged, Thurman’s movement is improving and his power is pretty devastating while Soto Karass is more experienced and has his own punching power. A fight would go the distance with Thurman winning on split decision.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Brian Vera Los Angeles Press Conference This Thursday
Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Brian Vera will appear this week with Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum in the Crystal Ballroom of the Millennium Biltmore Hotel at Noon PST to discuss their upcoming fight. Originally scheduled for September 7th, the match up was moved to September 28th after Chavez Jr. suffered an eye injury during sparring.
This will be Chavez Jr.’s first appearance back in the ring since his defeat against Sergio Martinez last September and positive MJ test. Vera on the other hand will put his current 4 fight win streak on the line.
Lucas Matthysse to Spar with Tim Bradley
In preparation for his mega unification match up with Danny Garcia, Matthysse turns to an across the town contender to prepare for his bout. Word has it Matthysse will be sparring with current WBO welterweight champion and Top Rank signee Tim Bradley.
“The speed and experience [of Bradley will help me]. Obviously he has good speed and that will help a lot.”
