HATR – Donaire With Dad; Bellew or Kovalev For Stevenson?

Happy Monday boxing fans. Once again Monday is upon us and the squared circle continues to be abuzz with news and developments. Coming off another controversial weekend in the sport (98-92 is still baffling), and the witnessing of complete domination (Stevenson really was great this weekend), we look forward to more opportunities to be wowed, disgusted, and excited. Here’s what’s being heard around the ring this last day of September.

BVYcY23CAAAhfxoNonito Donaire to Train With father For Bout With Darchinyan

Former world champion Nonito Donaire added his father back to the training arsenal. Working together for the first time since separating in 2008, Nonito Jr. let the cat out of the bag via twitter when he posted a picture of himself working the mitts with Nonito Sr. in a Las Vegas gym with the following caption:

“First time working with Papang since 2008. He’s still faster than me! Feels good.”

Nonito Sr. was in his son’s corner when he first knocked out  Darchiyan  in July 2007 but has been absent ever since after a family falling out. Training will be short lived as Dad has to return to training duties in the Philippines.

Bellew Ready “to come to Canada and take Stevenson’s belts”

As Adonis Stevenson put on a clinic in his seventh round stoppage victory over Tavoris Cloud, there was a very Bellew_1498536ainterested observer  watching the developments near by.

Tony Bellew who is the mandatory contender for the WBC strap took to twitter to express his thoughts on the outcome:

“So Stevenson won. I’ll be back here soon enough though and believe me when I come back here I’m taking his belts home with me! Let’s see if Superman is aa tough as they say cause I have a feeling he doesn’t know. I’m ready.”

Light heavyweight is shaping up to be very interesting. Bellew may be the mandatory but I’d rather see Stevenson vs Kovalev. Main Events’ Kathy Duva does too as evidenced by this post fight tweet:

“Sounds like @AdonisSuperman wants no part of @KrusherKovalev. Come on, Adonis! You would rather fight Bellew? Didn’t he lose to Cleverly?”

Main Events is making it’s voice heard in 2013.
