Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin, the rematch, is booked for September 15 and Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler is not only relieved a deal was made but was willing to put up his own money in his fighter’s purse just to make certain he got the percentage he wanted.

Catching up with Loeffler in Los Angeles, he says when the time was winding down, he was willing to put up his own money to make certain the fight would happen. Canelo and GGG ultimately agreed to a 55-45 split but when negotiations nearly derailed, he offered up his own money.

“I was offering to bridge the gap from my side. GGG said no, it has to come from Canelo and Golden Boy.”
