Felix Sturm Pulvarizes Barker To Win IBF Belt
STUTTGART, GERMANY –
It only took two rounds for Sturm to unleash shades of brilliance past and devastate Darren Barker in his first title defense to win the IBF middleweight belt at the Porsche Arena in Germany.
Barker attempted to bring the fight early Sturm early throwing combinations upstairs that largely missed and left hooks to the body while Sturm eased inside by working behind an efficient jab. As the roundcontinued, Sturm assumed the role of the aggressor by charging forward and pinning Barker against the ropes.
Stepping up his offensive in the second, Sturm sent Barker to the canvas for the first time with a short right hook with under two minutes remaining in the round with the second knockdown would come shortly after. According to reports, Barker struggled to get up from the second knockdown due to a dislocated hip. Smelling blood, Sturm charged forward and connected with repeated right hands until Barker’s corner had seen enough and threw in the towel.
