Offensive?

By: Jae What’s more offensive to you? Watching the bullying of kids by other kids or the murdering of kids by kids? There’s a heated debate taking place behind scenes of two iconic movies in their own right; Hunger Games and Bully. Hunger Games is set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister’s place for the latest match. While Bully, a documentary directed by Lee Hirsch, follows the real-life stories of five bullied kids over the course of a school year. What’s the controversy? Hunger games received a PG-13 rating, while…

STAND DOWN

Over the last week, media outlets have been reporting the tragic death of a 17 year old, unarmed, black male named Travyon Martin at the hands of George Zimmerman, a 28 year old white/hispanic male via vigilate justice. Was Trayvon racially profiled and killed as a hate crime? Over the next few months as this tragic story plays out, we will see the judicial systems response to these type of incidents. The story has been told and retold and told again. Inspring hoodie covered people to march and voice their concern over a law that not only promotes violence while hiding behind the mask of legality. I encourage Florida to strike down this law and…

NCAA it changes…

The NCAA can bring out hysteria in the most mild mannered people. But there are people out there who are a little less enthused than they once were. Check out B.Holcomb’s peace on his evolution from a die-hard to a casual observer. HOW THE NCAA TRANSFORMED ME INTO A CASUAL FAN by: B. Holcomb March Madness-The time of year where productivity suffers the most at the job.  The time of year where that person in your crew who never keeps up with sports, suddenly knows what Lehigh university’s tendencies are towards the end of the half.  The time of year where your living room becomes central command for all your bracketology updates.  Another opportunity to possibly get…

A HOMELESS HUB

AUSTIN, TX—As the awful demon-spawn of TED and a tech trade show, the South By Southwest Interactive Festival fetishizes good ideas—or at least what passes for ideas on Twitter. But the idea here that has attracted more attention than anything spouted by the many digital gurus and celebrity entrepreneurs on the mainstages has been a dumb one: Turning homeless people into wireless hotspots. From the BBC to CNN and the LA Times, to every blog including this one, the entire internet is talking about how, as a “a charitable experiment,” New York ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty enlisted more than a dozen homeless Austin residents to carry wireless 4G hotspots, onto which app-addled SXSW-goers can…

Lakers Close Out Another One

As the Lake Show trade/rumor mill continues to swirl around the league, the Lakers are quietly beating teams everyone expects them to loose too. Today’s victim was the Boston Celtics, another team currently ensnared in trade rumors and hurt feelings. The Kobe system, once again, appeared unstoppable with Bryant scoring 10 of his game high 26 points in the forth quarter to lift the Lakers past the Boston Celtics, 97 to 94 on Sunday. Andrew Bynum once again proved to be larger than life in the paint scoring 20 points. Bynum who’s remained relatively injury free this season has been a force since the All-Star Break with Metta World Peace added 14. If the Lakers…
